Much like the iPad, DJI hit on the winning formula for a lightweight gimbal early on, and now is making incremental improvements with each new generation. It’s a winning strategy for both Apple and DJI. Their fourth generation gimbal starts with slightly longer carbon fiber swing arms. They are now coated in teflon and slide on roller bearings, allowing easier incremental adjustments during setup and balancing. The motors have been upgraded to put out 20% more torque, and the gimbal can now handle built rigs up to 10 pounds (4.5 kg) in weight. Most mirrorless/smaller cameras only have one attachment screwhole. DJI’s new plate has a built-in guide that won’t allow your camera to twist. When you turn the RS4 on or off, powered axis locks disengage or engage allowing easier handling and storage.
Clients sometimes don’t understand that in Today’s widescreen world, “Protecting for Social” can be practically impossible. The RS4 can’t get blood from a stone, but it does have a new baseplate that lets you switch between Landscape and Portrait aspect ratios almost instantaneously while needing very minimal balance adjustments. New hardware always helps, but DJI has also been hard at work improving their software. When you do have to “Flip for Insta”, new algorithms specifically designed only for Portrait use mean no compromises. The gimbal now comes with both the stock BG30 battery handle as well as the longer more powerful BG70 battery handle.
