This a smaller COB light that uses Nanlux’s Nebula C8 engine. This is marketing-speak to say that whether you are using it as a straight up Tungsten/Daylight unit, or as a full RGB colour fixture, the light beam is made from a combination of eight differently coloured LED emitters. Every kid knows that when you shine sunlight through a prism you discover that what we call “white” light is in reality made up of a rainbow of different colours throughout the visible spectrum. That’s the principal in play here. Previous LED lights have used six colours, Nanlux has added a deep red emitter to help with skin tones, as well as an Indigo LED that goes beyond the visible spectrum into ultra-violet. Their research has shown that this Indigo light makes more accurate colour when it is reflected and absorbed by certain surfaces such as white clothing or the layers of your epidermis. All fancy talk that amounts to this: better skin tones for white light and richer colours when used as an RGB light.
Let’s talk features. It of course has a screen and physical controls, but it’s also built for wireless control: whether thats’s over Bluetooth using Nanlux’s app, or via CRMX Lumen Radio or by ArtNET, those standards are built-in. The light is IP66 rated, which means it can be used outside in the rain. It has a magnesium casing which makes it lightweight, and it has ¼-20 threaded mounting holes on its body so you can take it off its yoke and mount it using screws or lighting studs (we include one ⅝” stud). There is a clip on its yoke for a Vmount battery (extra) which can power the light using the included Dtap cable. Perhaps its nicest feature? Rather than plugging a 6′ AC cord into an external power brick, and then having a thin 8′ cord going to the fixture, the power supply is built into the light itself. Plug the included 15′ AC power cable directly between the light and your wall plug and you are good to go!
For mounting accessories such as lenses and softboxes it has an evolution of the FM mount that they are calling the FE mount. It has contact pins to allow the light head and the accessory to communicate electronically. This way the light “knows” what accessory is connected to it and can adjust it’s output appropriately. The pins can also supply power to accessories such as a powered fresnel lens (not included) to zoom the fresnel remotely. The second improvement of the FE mount is that has a locking collar that rotates and fastens accessories onto the light head more securely, much as a PL mount does with a camera lens. The light comes with 45º reflector that provides a nice reasonably even beam when you just want to use the light as normal fixture, but we are also including a spotlight attachment with 19º and 36º lenses. Each kit has an insertable iris to narrow the beam, holders for both sizes of gobos, and a few standard gobo patterns.
