This is a bang-for-your-buck kit, but it has also been designed for travel. The lights themselves are two Amaran P60x panels. These are bi-colour and dimmable, and they also have some lighting effects built into them (TV screen, Lightning, etc.). They can be remotely controlled using an app on your smartphone. A collapsable softbox fastens to the light with stretchy straps, greatly diffusing the light. A stud screws into the bottom of each light, and that in turn slots into an elbow which goes onto the light stand so the fixture can tilt up and down. The power supply plugs into the bottom of the light with a satisfying click, and you have to purposefully twist and pull on that connection to detach it, which means no accidental loss of power. The power supplies have tethers to hang them on the light stand, and then a 25′ AC cord runs to the wall for power. The panels can also run off of NP-F style batteries (extra).
The case that contains the kit has wheels and an extendable pull handle, and it has been specifically designed to match the guidelines of the largest luggage allowed in the overhead bins of an airplane. Sometimes you can get lights small enough to carry-on, but then you have to take check the light stands separately. Or, you might be able to get a light and a stand into a suitcase, but then you have to go buy an extension cord once you get to your location. This kit has TWO reasonably powerful bi-colour panels, diffusion to make them appear larger than they are, with decently tall stands and cords that can get you out into the middle of a room. Jet in – do your interview – and then jet back home all for an unbeatable price.
