We’ve switched over to a haze machine rather than a fog machine since it uses water based (rather than oil based) fluid which is designed to not set off smoke detectors, and it leaves less residue on surfaces after extended use. The HZ-350 weighs 31 pounds and has an onboard tank that can hold 2.5 litres of fluid. Since it uses 0.8 millilitres per minute at full output, theoretically it can run continuously for 52 hours before being refilled. There is a small external window on the tank to see the onboard level. Since it used water based fluid, it can’t be used in freezing temperatures and the manufacturer rates it from 0ºC to +40ºC. It draws 400 watts of power.
It comes with a small wireless remote that has simple start/stop buttons. We also rent it with the HC-1 wired remote that has dials to set how long it outputs and how often. Or if you are integrating it into a show, it has both wired (5pin) and wireless DMX capability and its single channel can be determined using the display and buttons on the back. We will take a reading at the start of the rental and prorate fluid use when it returns to the nearest positive half litre.
