That title has a lot of letters, but probably the most important ones are 12G. We have had (and still have) Decimator Design converters that take in an SDI signal (standard definition up through 3G high definition) and convert it to an HDMI signal. Since they are Bi-Directional, they will also do the opposite at the same time: take a standard definition or high definition HDMI signal and convert it to the SDI standard. These BlackMagic converters do the same thing but go beyond HD and into the UHD and 4K range for resolution. They also allow 12G SDI signals which denotes that it can convert 4K signals at up to 60 progressive frames per second. It’s important to make clear that these simply do a conversion from one cable connection standard to the other, they DO NOT upscale or down res the signals: you can’t plug in a high definition HDMI signal and expect the converter to upscale its resolution to UHD (although our Decimator Design 12G Cross will do that very thing). Having said that, you CAN have a different video standard going in either direction. Another cool feature is that if you are not using the bi-directionality of the box, whatever you input will be cloned as a pass-through signal. So, if you had an SDI signal coming in, it would convert it to HDMI out, but if there was no HDMI signal coming in for conversion, it would clone the SDI signal and offer it on the SDI out. These power over a USB-C connection so you can plug them into AC with the included power adaptor, but you can also use a USB-C battery bank or even a spare USB port on the back of a monitor to give them juice. Convenient!
