Canon’s new full-frame RF native lens is very fast, especially for its physical size and range of focal lengths. It is a constant f2.8 throughout its zoom range, and its aperture is “de-clicked” so video users can make smooth adjustments. 24 different elements mean focus breathing is minimized, and all zooming and focusing happens within the sealed body of the lens with no change in overall lens length. This means the center of gravity shift for gimbal users is minimized. It has two USM motors for quiet and quick autofocusing. The IS in its name means it has stabilization built-in, with up to 5 stops on its own, and 8 stops when paired with a compatible camera. Canon says it has “Super Spectra, Air Sphere, and Fluorine coatings”. What does that mean? It’s a fancy way of saying lens flare and ghosting are tamed. It has an 11 blade aperture for nice bokeh.
