GoPros now come with a number of what we’ll call secondary features: cloud upload, voice control, scheduled recording, etc. If you want a complete listing we encourage you to go to GoPro’s site for the full skinny. Let’s ignore all that and concentrate on the camera: what makes the images from this camera better than previous generations? Two things primarily: a larger almost square shaped image sensor, and a better quality codec. All things being equal, a larger sensor is generally better. It allows more surface area for gathering photons which means better low light performance. It also allows more pixels which means better electronic stabilization, more varied aspect ratios and higher dynamic range. More HDR from the camera means nothing if you can’t record it, so GoPro has added a professional codec that has 10bit colour and less compression. Nothing is for free though: that better codec means more data so we send our camera out with a large 256GB microSD card that is V30 speed rated to deal with the flood of zeros and ones. A complete listing of what comes in our package is below, but a couple highlights are 3 batteries with their own charger, and a metal clamp (not plastic) and arm that can mount, position and secure the camera in just about any angle.
