SmallHD is the industry standard for field monitoring, and this is their top of the line 5″ monitor. It comes with a screw-on sunshade and is super bright at 3000 nits of output. Oftentimes compromises in monitoring quality are made in order to crank up the daylight view-ability of a field monitor, but this one bucks that trend: its touchscreen is a true 10bit panel with 4:2:2 DCI-P3 colour. As mentioned it is a touchscreen, but it can also be operated using the recessed joystick and buttons down the left side, which helps to keep fingerprints off the view surface. SmallHD’s famed Page OS5 menu system gives access to histograms, peaking, false colour, waveforms, anamorphic de-squeeze, imported LUTs, audio meters and many more monitoring options. The monitor has HDMI and 3G-SDI inputs and outputs and can cross convert between the two.
In an effort to preserve the threaded mounting holes of the monitor, we’ve included a permanently attached ball end which fits into a clamp that allows a wide range of movement and locking positions. The other end of the clamp has a plethora of connection options: a ¼ 20 screw with retractable locking pins, a short extension with a second clamp, a hotshoe, an ARRI Rosette mount and a NATO clamp.
