A standard zoom, in Sony’s E-mount, covering full frame (and crop) sensors. As part of their G Master line, it’s excellent in every regard: build quality, sharpness, colour, bokeh, handling, focusing. If anyone is given the choice of only having one lens to shoot everything, inevitably this is what they choose. Reasonably wide to start, it maintains its fast 2.8 aperture throughout its 3x zoom range out to 70mm, making it a great portrait or interview lens, . It’s dust and moisture sealed, and uses a Super Sonic Wave motor for autofocusing. Besides sounding cool, that means quick and quiet autofocusing and responsive manual focusing. It has a hold focus button and also has a physical manual switch to turn the autofocus on or off, rather than having to dig around in menus. So competent it gets taken for granted, this is a great lens.
