This support rig is designed to be used with DJI’s RS2 or RS3 gimbals only. Those gimbals are a marvel for certain scenarios, but when you try to push them past their limits, they tend to come up short. This rig extends their capabilities closer to the level of our DJI Ronin 2. The first obvious difference is of course the rig itself. It is a rounded square which allows an operator to more easily carry the weight, and just this simple change leads to steadier shots. It also gives more real estate for any accessories you might want to add and to better distribute their weight. Like its big Brother the Ronin 2, it’s possible to transfer that weight to your hips with our Ready Rig (extra). The ring has fold out feet which lets you set it down when you need to take a rest.
The handle/battery from either gimbal slots into the top, and then a small clamp there tightens down to make it solid enough that you can carry the whole rig and accessories around with it. The RS2 and RS3 gimbals come with a handle/battery, and we are including a spare one in with this rig. On either side of center on the top and bottom spars are four multipin power connections. The power from the handle/battery flows through the rig and to these four connections (as well as to the gimbal itself of course). The connections are bi-directional: on one of the connections we have a plate to allow you to power the rig with a Vmount battery, rather than relying on the handle/batteries. On another connection we have a secure mounting point with hotshoe, ¼” and ⅜” connections as well as USB-A and Dtap power outputs.
Handgrips can be mounted on either side which duplicate the controls normally found on the base of the gimbal. One grip has the the joystick and the other one has the control wheel. Although the handgrips get power from the rig, the control signals from them are actually sent via a small transducer that mounts to the base of the gimbal.
