About
There are sort of two levels of suction cup: the plastic ones that come with a GoPro and the professional ones that riggers use for car mounts. This is sort of a modern iteration of the car mount cups. Those have a manual pump to create the vacuum under the cup: you pump a piston multiple times to remove the air and the piston has a colour indicator on it. If you can see the indicator, the cup is on the verge of releasing its hold and you need to cycle the piston a few more times to re-establish its gripping power. On this Tilta unit, the piston mechanism has been replaced with an small electric air pump and an onboard battery to power it. The air pump has sensors built into it. Once it has established the initial “hold”, it monitors the vacuum level. If vacuum starts to bleed away it will sense it and re-engage automatically to pump out the air and maintain a steady grip on a flat, clean, non-porous surface. The internal battery charges over USB-C (power supply and cable included) and Tilta reckons it has enough power to hold vacuum for 24 hours. Tilta says with a good seal the unit can hold up to 20 kilograms of weight. The surface of the unit has a number of common mounting options: ARRI Rosette, NATO Rail, Hotshoe and No-Twist ⅜” and ¼” screw mounts. We package it with a ⅝” 750 stud that has threads at either end for joining to other mounts.
Renters are entirely responsible for securing whatever gear they mount to this suction cup. Variables such as temperature and surface cleanliness can have a large effect on this unit’s holding power. Always have a safety strap attached to whatever gear you are mounting to this unit and stay within its operating parameters. FRANK Digital is not responsible for any damage to your gear as a result of renting this unit.
